What is an administrator?Edit

An administrator, or admin for short, is a user who has been granted special privileges on a wiki. An administrator is also called a "sysop". Administrators can:

  • Delete and undelete pages and uploaded files.
  • Lock and unlock pages so they cannot be edited or renamed. This is called "Protection".
  • Block IP addresses and users from editing.
  • Quickly undo unwanted edits. This reversion process is called a "Rollback".
  • Edit the wiki's appearance and system messages.

What is a bureaucrat?Edit

A bureaucrat is another special user. Bureaucrats do not have site maintenance rights like admins do. A bureaucrat's job is to promote a user's status to admin, bureaucrat, chat moderator or rollbacker. They can take away such statuses as well. It is possible, but not necessary, to be both a bureaucrat and an administrator.

What can administrators not do?Edit

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the Wikia community.
